After you press enter, the terminal will launch the Canon EOS Utility and if you close the terminal window or quit the terminal application, it will exit the Canon EOS Utility.

And you can ignore the statements or errors reported in the terminal as illustrated below.  The terminal is reporting issues with Canon’s coding of the EOS Utility.

For months, I’ve been waiting for Canon to release a Lion compatible EOS Utility. The standard practice among Canon EOS Utility users so far has been to use a previous version of the utility.  The workaround I found last night only shows that Canon is dragging it’s feet to release an update of the Canon EOS Utility for some unknown reason.

The bad news. While this workaround does launch the Canon EOS Utility, you can’t really do anything with it.  Under the Control Camera tab, you can only access the Monitor Folder function.  And under the Accessories tab, you can only use the shortcut to launch the Picture Style Editor.  Neither of which are that useful.  When I try to force the EOS Utility to download the photos from my camera as a test, it states that my Canon EOS 7D with version 1.2.5 firmware isn’t recognized.  I apologize for getting anyone’s hopes up.    In the meantime, I’ve confirmed that the EOS Utility version 2.7.2 does in fact fully work with Mac OS X 10.7.x.

Update: Canon has finally released a Mac OS X 10.7.x compatible version of the EOS Utility version 2.10.4.  You can download it from here. Official release notes from Canon are here. The only officially listed changes are support for Mac OS X 10.6.8 and 10.7.

Some instantly noticeable improvements found in the EOS Utility version 2.10.4 are the following:

Time Settings will allow you to sync your camera’s time with your computer’s time.

Extended File and Destination Folder naming.
